Just back from a few weeks cruising around the Northern California and Oregon coasts. I traveled with these 2 boards and 3.7 – 5.9 sails and was covered very nicely. The X-Wave is a fantastic light air board that continues to work great in powered 5.3 conditions and waves. I prefer the single fin in this size to give me more flexibility on the light air end – it’s nice to have that single fin to push against. The TF78 is my bread and butter when it’s ON! This board does everything perfectly now that I’ve had it dialed for a while. Loose as a goose with out sacrificing speed, early planing or upwind ability. Truly fantastic all the way around. And now after being on this board for a couple seasons, I can vouch for the durability. I went from breaking production boards yearly to have this board keep on ticking for multiple seasons… not even a soft spot. Stoked!!

Oregon sure took her sweet time geting the season going. After our big west coast trip, 900 miles of coastline in 2 weeks, we were stoked to come home and kill it at our own breaks. May was lackluster and things didn’t heat up until June. But once it was firing, it got good quick. I quickly remembered how much my OES Twin Fin 78 shines. I’ve been sailing the board for two years now and my sailing just keeps progressing in leaps and bounds. I’ve been trying to time my off the lips for years, but with a single fin I just couldn’t get there when I wanted to. With the TF 78, that is no longer an issue….. I owe all these hits from Oregon 2009, to my board and Pete Ross. Hope these shots keep you warm through winter!!

Here is a video from Cape Sebastian on the Oregon Coast. The Cape is located on the Southern Oregon Coast right next to Pistol River. Jake and I had a great trip trying out a bunch of new spots along the Coast. This was the only day that we sailed the Cape, and it was a fun one. The conditions were very challenging, with some difficult to read waves and extremely overpowering wind. We were both on 4.2’s and should have been on 3.5’s. The locals said that this wind was typical, but the waves often get a lot better. I would love to try it on a big day with the proper size sail. The potential of this place is unreal!

Just wanted to let you know that I have completed the Oregon Gorge test for the 2010 XWave 75 litre board. I wanted to ride the board for the season in the Gorge before I reported! I can honestly say that I have never riden a better all around board since I began sailing 25 years ago. All production boards, and I mean the few I have tried, can not stack up to qualiity, durability, and overall sailability of this board! I weigh 185lbs and was able to sail a 5.2 down to a 3.2 with this board with no issues whatsoever. As I told you before, the balance and weigh distribution is perfect. Early planing, quickness, and a loseness is what I look for in the performance areas and it excells. As far as durability(something that took the entire season of total abuse and use) the board is still as solid as the day I got it.

It has assured me that I will continue riding OES boards. Why would anyone buy a production board when they can own one of these Custom boards for the same price is beyond me. You have outdone yourself with the 2010′s! Thanks for still doing it right! Will talk to you soon..Skip

It has been very good overall, with some great days in the Gorge, and also up and down the coastline. Oregon has so many sailing spots, that you can pretty much pick and choose what kind of conditions you are after. For someone who wants a variety of conditions, Oregon is the place to be. I sailed an average of 4-5 days per week, and had everything from 5.0 freestyle to 3.5 pumping down the line wavesailing. The Gorge did not disappoint, offering some great 40 knot winds and glassy, rolling swells.

These pics are only a small sampling of the conditions we had. I also managed to get some quality filming done. Here is a coast video of Jake Miller and myself at Pistol River, produced by Jake Miller of Snake Bite Productions. I am riding Ezzy/OES, while Jake is on Goya/Quatro. Check back soon for an amazing Gorge video, and some good pics.

See ya on the water,

These are a few shots of me during the first week or so sailing my OES TF 78. Below are my first impressions written over my first few days as a TF newbie adjusting to the twin fin:

re sailing the twin in op’ed conditions – it’s very easy to correct when you feel it start to spin out. In fact, before long, I was able to do it preemptively. The only time I found it difficult to correct was off the top a couple times when I ended up doing a slider across the lip and also when I spun out on a backside bottom turn and ended up sliding sideways facing into a pit – that was interesting!

First of all, it’s a looker – everyone wants to check it out on the beach. Kinda like leaving your hot girlfriend on the beach while you’re sailing. The construction is rock solid at a nice weight.

Man, that board likes to fit right in the pocket – and it bottom turns like a dream. I had some magical moments then got cocky and went for a late hit on a logo + section. I got worked pretty good with my back foot stuck in the strap. That was the end for Sunday. Conclusion – pretty different to ride, but I see the potential. Needed to play with fin position… the twins definitely didn’t like too much sail power. The board is very fast – no problem there, and lots of pop for looping and lip smacks.

Now that I’m more used to it, I’d say the board planes up fairly early, is very fast (sometimes too fast), bottom turns like a dream for going vertical… off the top is taking a little getting used to. I’ve had some magical cutbacks and a few nice off the lips, but at times I’ve found myself unusually ‘out of sorts’ when I get to the top. At first I was thinking that the board reacts different off the top, but actually I think I’m just getting to the top in slightly different form after the radical bottom turn… and I need to get that dialed.

The bottom line – with a little adjusting of your technique, this board WILL take your wavesailing to the next level.

First posting, and I’m stuck on the beach! I busted my elbow training and am stuck with camera duty. Here are a couple pictures of Oregon OES Riders Tom Burlingame and Mark Erickson getting a real fun late season Oceanside session. They traded waves all afternoon with friends Whit Poor and Rob Warwick. The wind was solid 4.7, not too much for waves, but those twin fins make everything fun!
